what a terrible, terrible job i've been doing.

you'd think as it got darker and winter-ier, i'd be even more bloggy, but instead i've just hushed right up. here's a little something just to remind myself that i do this, and that i like to do this. it's my favorite etsy thing of the week, from yardia.

03 November 2008

it's just a really important thing.

and it's part of the reason i've been so quiet lately.

17 October 2008

look what they've gone and done.

bottle rocket is being given the criterion treatment it deserves...(why eric chase anderson didn't do the illustration for this one is a question i'll leave to the anderson family psychiatrists.)

13 October 2008

as val said, since iceland is bankrupt...

...plane tickets are finally super cheap. or, at least, cheaper. but you know it'll be mobbed by folks who got the new anthropologie catalog, and who wants to deal with that?

well, i would, actually.

speaking of which, the dude who directed the shoot there put up a lovely set of photos (sans skinny girls with pouty mouths) from the visit up on flickr, two of which you're gazing at right now...so go see the rest, why don't you.

03 October 2008

also,

yay! they just posted the fantastic opening sequence of the documentary i've been waiting patiently patiently and patiently to see, and it's

f. a. n. t. a. s. t. i. c.

i got my copy of the book this week and read it all up in one night. shoot.

more embroidery, of course

swiped from design*sponge this morning, news of a show coming up in january, with a call for entries here.

i'm so in love with an intimidated by this piece, by Anna Keck, that even though I've picked some embroidery projects back up (it's chilly out!) there's no way I'm ready to send anything off to be judged. whatevs.

29 September 2008

i don't have that many favorite actresses, come to think of it...

...but i just love her.

"Ami Sioux has a different take when it comes to travel photography. The Paris-based photographer just released REYKJAVIK 64°08N 21°54W, the first installment of a five part series. Sioux asked 50 people from Reykjavik to hand-draw a map leading to a place of their choosing that was significant or important to them for any reason. She then follows this treasure hunt of sorts, finds and photographs these places, and couples the photo with the original hand drawn map in the book."

the anxiety of icon-ness

i'm no ardent virginia woolf fan, though i think she's perfectly fine, and i also get a little tired of every historical figure being turned into "style icons" by the ever-growing legions of designers with no ideas of their own...

...but as we're moving into fall i've been sort of wishing i had a lot of slouchy virginia woolf dresses (plus cardigans, plus soft warm scarves) and school-marmy heels. or, should i say, i've been wishing i had those items plus the healthily willowy body they look best on.

anyway, here are some lovely versions of virginia to think about, because it's september!

reasons to love fall #627

(if you haven't: for shame.) i'm happy to report that the ridonkulously fantastic sam riley------->is in burberry's fall campaign for cozy coats and etcetera. i can only find two tiny pictures to show you, so be sure to keep your eyes open for them in all the september issues i know you'll be reading anyway.

28 July 2008

four reasons i wish i was in new york right now

the folk art museum is exhibiting works by and inspired by henry darger. some of my favorites are already there--like amy cutler, for example--but so are some folks who are totally new to me, like the apparently amazing justine kurland.also, tonight at bryant park they're showing 'the apartment' for zero dollars. it's yukky out, but i'd brave the yukky for that.

21 July 2008

"your rocky spine," great lake swimmers.

11 July 2008

eh....

at a loss. want stuff. don't want stuff. restless. eh. here's a lovely item from here. eh.

31 March 2008

it's a rebirth.

it's cheating a little, because it isn't a picture from today--it's from saturday--but it still means something, and that something is: let's steal that idea and make things here!

Test. Test. Test....

I'm going to finish this book tonight.
